Levantine Recipes: Ruz bil Sha'aria
Levantine Style Vermicelli Rice
Rice is the most basic building block to any cuisine, and in the Levant, we have this iconic rice called Ruz bil Sha’aria which translates to rice with vermicelli. It’s unlike any other rice I see made across the world which is why I think it’s the best way to kick off this in depth recipe series.
We pair this rice with basically all of our stews, sometimes with our bbqs, and maybe some of my Levantine friends here will know about Ruz w Laban which is rice and yogurt. Literally just this vermicelli rice and a scoop or two of plain yogurt. Sounds weird I know - it’s not a dish by any means, more like a “I’m hungry and that’s all I have in the fridge” meal but it hits so so so good.
This is the base for a majority of our cooking so I hope you can give this a shot and add a new style of rice to your home!
